HomeServicesBlocked Drains Kingston

A blocked drain doesn't fix itself. Left alone, a partial blockage becomes a full one, and a full one becomes sewage backing up through your floor or manhole. If you're in Kingston upon Thames, KT1 or KT2, and water's going nowhere, that's what we're here for.

We clear blocked drains, sinks, toilets and external drainage at properties across the borough. The difference with how we work is that we don't just shift the blockage to another section of pipe. We find out what caused it.

What's actually blocking it

Most blockages fall into one of a handful of categories, but you can't always tell which from the symptom alone.

  • Grease and fat build-up in kitchen waste pipes, common in older terraced properties around Norbiton and parts of Kingston Town Centre where cast-iron pipework is still in use
  • Wet wipes, sanitary products or cotton wool in toilet waste lines, regardless of what the packaging claims about flushability
  • Silt and leaf debris in external gullies and channel drains, especially where properties back onto green space around Coombe, Coombe Hill and Kingston Vale
  • Root intrusion from trees, particularly in the older clay-pipe runs you find under properties in Ham, Teddington and Hampton Wick
  • Collapsed or displaced pipe sections that are trapping debris regardless of what's flushed

The last two on that list won't respond to a plunger. They need proper diagnosis before any clearing work makes sense.

How we clear it

For most sink and toilet blockages, high-pressure water jetting is the fastest and most thorough method. It doesn't just punch a hole through the obstruction, it clears the pipe walls at the same time, using Water Jetting Association methods.

For external drains, gullies and manholes, we lift covers, rod or jet as required, and check flow through the full run. If there's standing water in a manhole or the level's high before jetting, that tells us something about the system further downstream.

Where jetting clears the blockage but we can't confirm the cause, we'll discuss a CCTV drain survey with you. A camera passed through the pipe shows us exactly what's going on inside, whether that's a partial root ingress, a cracked joint collecting debris, or a belly in the pipe that'll always hold water. You won't be sold a survey you don't need, but if the pipe's failed internally, pushing the blockage clear won't be the end of it.

Internal versus external: which is yours

SymptomLikely locationTypical cause
One sink slow to drainInternal waste pipeGrease, soap, hair build-up
Toilet gurgling when sink drainsShared internal stackPartial blockage in soil pipe
Multiple fixtures backing upMain drain under the propertySignificant blockage or collapse
External manhole surchargingShared or lateral drainSilt, roots, structural failure

Knowing which part of the system is affected lets us bring the right equipment first time. A blocked gully pot in a rear yard at a Surbiton semi doesn't need the same approach as a surcharging manhole serving a row of flats on Kingston Hill.

When to call immediately

Some situations need a call today rather than tomorrow.

  • Sewage or waste water is coming back up through a drain, manhole or toilet
  • More than one fixture is blocked at the same time
  • There's a smell of sewer gas inside the property
  • You've tried plunging and jetting hasn't been done before, so there's no idea what's in the pipe
  • A commercial kitchen, letting property or HMO has gone down and there are regulatory or tenant obligations to consider

We cover Kingston upon Thames 24 hours a day, every day, including bank holidays. There's no call-out fee.
